Joanna’s Place
The Haley Cremer Foundation helps sponsor Circle Support Groups at Joanna’s Place.
Three separate Circle groups, for children, 5-13 years, each with its own focus on resilience:
- Circle G offers support for children and their parents facing the loss of a parent or sibling,
- Circle S offers support for children and their parent facing the challenges of being a ‘typical sibling; that is, having a brother or sister with a significant special need’.
- Circle I offers support for children and parents facing a life-challenging or chronic illness
In August of 2007 Heather and Jerry Mullin heard the terrible news that no parent should ever have to hear. Their beautiful, sweet and bright daughter, Joanna, had been killed at the tender age of 6. Such devastating loss is unfathomable to most of us. It is difficult to imagine how a family could survive such a tragedy.
Yet the harsh reality is that many families face unimaginable losses. Consider these numbers: every fifteen minutes, a baby dies; every four hours, an adolescent takes his or her life by suicide; every day, 13 children are victims of homicide; every day 190 adults die in accidents.
Joanna’s Place was founded in loving memory of Joanna Mullin. This non-profit organization is working to provide continued support to families who are suffering a significant loss or change. Joanna’s Place offers services to families for free so that everyone has access to the help they need, when they need it most.
